Power Shift On Brazil's Right: Eduardo Bolsonaro's Exit Sparks Nikolas Ferreira's Rise

(MENAFN- The Rio Times) Brazil's political right is at a crossroads as the Bolsonaro family's dominance weakens. Official sources confirm that Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, left Brazil for the United States in March 2025.

He cited fears of arrest and what he calls political persecution by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. Eduardo's decision followed calls from political opponents to seize his passport, though the Supreme Court denied the request.

He has since sought political asylum in the U.S. and is lobbying for American sanctions against Moraes, whom he accuses of human rights violations.

Brazilian authorities have not charged Eduardo with any crimes, but he faces an official investigation for allegedly seeking foreign interference in Brazil's judiciary.

Eduardo's absence has left a vacuum. Conservative allies, once united under the Bolsonaro name, now look for new leadership. The Liberal Party (PL), Brazil's main right-wing party, has seen internal friction.

Some leaders express frustration over Eduardo's decision to leave without consulting the party, weakening their presence in Congress . Meanwhile, the right's search for a new standard-bearer intensifies as Jair Bolsonaro remains barred from office until 2030 and faces trial for alleged coup plotting.
Rising Star of Brazil's Right Shapes Future Political Landscape
Nikolas Ferreira, a 28-year-old federal deputy from Minas Gerais, has emerged as a new force. He won 1.4 million votes in 2022, the most of any MP, and now commands more than 17 million Instagram followers.

Ferreira 's direct style and viral social media campaigns have shaped public debate and even forced the government to backtrack on controversial financial monitoring rules.

His appeal is strongest among young people and entrepreneurs, who see him as a fresh alternative to traditional politicians. However, Brazil's constitution bars presidential candidates under 35, so Ferreira cannot run in 2026.

Still, his influence is growing, and many citizens now call for him to lead the right in the future. The right's leadership struggle matters for business and investors.

Political uncertainty affects Brazil's economic outlook, regulatory environment, and international relations. As the judiciary faces growing scrutiny at home and abroad, and as new leaders rise, the direction of Brazil's right will shape the country's policies and stability for years to come.
