Afghanistan Witnesses Surge in Congo Fever Cases
(MENAFN) Afghanistan is witnessing a notable increase in cases of Congo fever, a zoonotic infectious disease, with nearly 100 suspected infections reported within the last month, hospital officials revealed on Monday.
Local doctor Faridullah Omari told a news outlet that the number of cases has grown compared to last year and continues to climb steadily.
He added that the disease’s incidence has surged by approximately 10 to 15 percent year-over-year.
With Eid al-Adha approaching—a key Muslim holiday marked by the traditional sacrifice of animals such as sheep and cattle—health authorities are urging citizens, particularly butchers, to use gloves and masks during animal slaughter and to strictly adhere to safety protocols.
