Emirates, Flynas Launch Direct Commercial Flights to Damascus
(MENAFN) Syria's General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport revealed on Monday that Emirates, the UAE's leading airline, alongside Saudi Arabia’s budget carrier Flynas, are set to initiate direct commercial flights to Damascus, according to a Syrian state news outlet.
The authority confirmed that Emirates will recommence its service to Damascus International Airport from July 16, ending a 13-year interruption. Meanwhile, Flynas plans to start flying between Riyadh and Damascus within days, with its website announcing that direct flights will begin on Thursday.
The authority hailed Emirates’ return as a pivotal development likely to motivate additional airlines to either restart or launch new routes to Damascus. It emphasized that this progress should stimulate trade and economic growth, enhance tourism, and simplify travel for Syrians, especially those residing in the substantial UAE expatriate community.
Additionally, the authority highlighted its ongoing efforts to upgrade Damascus International Airport. This includes renovation projects, infrastructure improvements, and comprehensive staff training designed to align the airport with global aviation standards.
Just the day before, the Dubai-based low-cost airline Flydubai touched down at Damascus International Airport, marking the first direct commercial flight from the UAE to Syria after a prolonged break.
