(MENAFN) Russia is preparing to inaugurate a new Consulate General in the Egyptian coastal destination of Sharm El-Sheikh, as outlined in a directive signed by Russian Premier Mikhail Mishustin and made public on Tuesday.

The mandate directs the Russian Foreign Ministry to finalize the number of personnel required and to validate the organizational framework for the diplomatic post.

This new consulate will become Russia’s second such mission in Egypt, adding to the existing Consulate General in Hurghada, another popular resort town, and the Russian Embassy in Cairo.

The expansion underscores Russia’s growing diplomatic presence in the region.

In a related development, Niger recently acknowledged it would accommodate a Russian Embassy for the first time in over thirty years.

This declaration was made by Nigerien Foreign Minister Bakari Yaou Sangare, who emphasized the nation’s willingness to host a long-term Russian diplomatic outpost.

Earlier in the year, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, disclosed that efforts were in progress to establish embassies in several African states, including Niger, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan.

She revealed that the essential administrative approvals were finalized in December, with official openings anticipated in the near future.
