North Korea Calls on U.S. to Drop Military Threats

(MENAFN) North Korea issued a stern warning to the United States on Sunday, calling on Washington to "abandon its military threats against others if it has concerns about its mainland safety," according to a state-run news outlet.

The Defense Ministry in Pyongyang declared that "the security guarantee of the US mainland" is contingent upon the U.S. ceasing its "military threats and aggressive attempts" toward other countries, the news outlet reported.

A statement from the head of the ministry’s policy office criticized recent U.S. military posture, stating, "Recently, the US military is hell-bent on inciting the 'threat' from the DPRK to its mainland while attempting to increase the arms buildup on the largest scale."

DPRK, short for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is North Korea’s official name.

Pyongyang also accused American military leaders of antagonizing its nuclear strategy, asserting that they are "picking a quarrel with the DPRK's self-defensive measures for bolstering up its nuclear force on several occasions, unhesitatingly making provocative remarks hinting at the possibility of outbreak of a war with the DPRK."

Meanwhile, a U.S. intelligence analysis cited by a South Korea-based news agency indicated that North Korea now holds its "strongest strategic position" in decades. The report noted that the DPRK is "doubling down on its pursuit of advanced weapons that can threaten US forces and allies in Northeast Asia, and the US mainland," according to the South Korea-based news agency.
