Denmark Signals Readiness Amid Potential US Trade Dispute

(MENAFN) Denmark has expressed its preparedness to safeguard its national interests if a trade conflict with the United States arises, according to a statement made by the country's top diplomat on Friday.

Citing Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, a national broadcaster reported that "Denmark and the rest of the EU are ready to defend their interests in a possible trade war with the US." Rasmussen noted, however, that "The EU wants, first and foremost, to pursue dialogue and negotiate a solution."

He further highlighted that although the European Union remains focused on reaching a diplomatic resolution through discussions, it is equally willing to respond decisively and appropriately should it become essential to protect its economic position.

This announcement followed recent comments by US President Donald Trump, who remarked that ongoing tariff talks with the EU "are going nowhere" and proposed imposing a 50 percent duty on European goods starting June 1.
