Spain Summons Israeli Envoy After Attack On European, Arab Diplomats In Jenin

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MADRID, May 21 (KUNA) -- Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union on Wednesday summoned the Israeli Charge d'Affairs in Madrid to condemn the targeting of a diplomatic delegation during their tour of Jenin refugee camp earlier today.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on his X account that in response to the unacceptable shooting that occurred while the delegation of Spain, Europe, and other diplomats were touring the camp, "we have summoned the charge d'affairs of the Israeli embassy in Madrid".
Albares called for clarity and accountability as his stance was to support the diplomats who came under fire.
The Israeli government has not had an ambassador in Madrid for over a year, following Benjamin Netanyahu's government recalled its ambassador, Rodica Radian, in protest against the Spanish government's decision to recognize an independent Palestinian state in May of last year. (end)
