(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Budapest on Wednesday to participate in an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
He was received by Hungary’s Construction and Transport Minister Janos Lazar, Protocol Director General Anett Varga, Hungarian Ambassador to Türkiye Viktor Matis, and Turkish Ambassador to Budapest Gulsen Karanis Eksioglu, along with other diplomatic staff.
Erdogan is slated to join a session of the OTS Council of Heads of State and is also expected to hold one-on-one meetings with leaders from other participating countries.
According to Türkiye's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, the summit—held under the theme "Meeting point of East and West"—will focus on reviewing efforts to reinforce the organization’s institutional foundation. He added on X that the event will also see the adoption of various resolutions and the Budapest Declaration.
Traveling with the president are First Lady Emine Erdogan, chief presidential adviser on foreign policy and security Akif Cagatay Kilic, and Altun.
The heads of state summit is scheduled for today.
Türkiye is a full member of the OTS, along with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Hungary, Turkmenistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus hold observer status.
