Regional Powers Denounce Suicide Bombing in Somalia’s Capital
(MENAFN) Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have issued strong condemnations following a suicide bombing that occurred near a military installation in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, on Sunday.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement expressing denouncement for the attack near the Damaanyo military base “in the strongest terms” and affirmed its complete support for Somalia. The ministry conveyed its sympathies to the families of the victims and the Somali populace, wishing those injured a swift recovery.
Similarly, Qatar's Foreign Ministry denounced the bombing incident, underscoring Doha's ongoing dedication to the fight against all manifestations of violence and terrorism.
The UAE's Foreign Ministry echoed these sentiments in its own statement, offering condolences to the Somali government, its citizens, and the bereaved families.
Local reports indicate that the assailant detonated explosives while positioned among individuals who were in a queue to enlist in the Somali National Army. While casualties have been reported, no entity has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Security protocols have been intensified in the aftermath, and an investigation into the bombing is currently underway.
