By Abdullah Al-Khatib
KUWAIT, May 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Noora Al-Fassam affirmed on Friday that Kuwaiti women have proven their competence and leadership, and that Kuwait has always been a pioneer in supporting women.
Al-Fassam told KUNA on the occasion of Kuwaiti Women's Day (which falls on May 16 of each year), that empowering women is not an option, but rather a national necessity to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
She highlighted the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, which focus on empowering women and enhancing their participation in leadership positions.
She pointed out that women represent more than 60 percent of government employees and hold approximately 18 percent of leadership and supervisory positions in the country.
Women also hold advanced positions in the Ministry of Finance and other government agencies, and constitute a significant part of planning and decision-making teams, she added.
Al-Fassam explained that the Ministry of Finance and its affiliated entities are working to adopt specific programs and initiatives to empower women, enhance a supportive work environment, and encourage their participation in the public and private sectors.
She emphasized the need to work and commit to implementing the directives of the political leadership to support national competencies, especially Kuwaiti women, who have consistently demonstrated their ability to contribute and excel in various fields. (end)
