Indonesia Sees Sharp Drop in Traffic Accidents, Deaths During Eid al-Fitr

(MENAFN) Traffic-related incidents in Indonesia saw a significant decline during this year's Eid al-Fitr travel period, with accidents down by 34.31 percent and fatalities dropping 55.95 percent compared to the same time last year, according to a government official.

Speaking at a parliamentary session on Wednesday, Transportation Minister Dudi Purwagandy reported that 4,640 accidents occurred throughout the annual mass homecoming, resulting in 548 deaths.

"Based on data from the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, there were 4,640 traffic accidents during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming season, marking a 34.31 percent decrease compared to 2024," he told lawmakers.

He added that more than 154 million Indonesians made the journey to their hometowns for the holiday.

To manage the surge in travel, law enforcement and military forces carried out a coordinated traffic management operation during the period spanning March to April.
