Maldives Imposes Ban on Israeli Passport Holders in Protest of Israeli Atrocities in Gaza
(MENAFN) The Maldives has announced a ban on Israeli passport holders, following the country's opposition to Israel's military campaign in Gaza. President Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement on Tuesday, after the People’s Majlis ratified the Third Amendment to the Maldives Immigration Act on April 15.
In a post shared on Facebook, Muizzu called the amendment a “clear reflection of our stand against the ongoing atrocities in Palestine,” emphasizing that the Maldives “reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people.” The President's Office further highlighted that the amendment signifies the government’s “firm stance in response to the continuing atrocities and ongoing acts of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.”
The statement also reiterated “the Maldives continues to advocate for accountability for violations of international law and remains vocal across various international platforms in its condemnation of Israel’s actions.” Additionally, the government reaffirmed its longstanding support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with UN resolutions and international legal norms.
