Zelenskyy Proposes Extending Martial Law for Another 90 days
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Ukrainian Leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced a pair of legislative proposals to the Verkhovna Rada, the nation's parliament, seeking to prolong both the mobilization efforts and the enforcement of martial law across Ukraine for an additional 90-day period.
These proposals appeared on the parliament’s official digital platform, which indicated that the documents are currently being evaluated by the legislative body’s committee responsible for national defense, intelligence, and security matters.
Based on the drafts, the suggested extension would keep martial law active from May 9 until August 6, maintaining the government’s emergency authority during the war.
President Zelenskyy initially imposed martial law and announced full mobilization on February 24, 2022, coinciding with the start of Russia’s "special military operation" in Ukraine.
These extraordinary measures have been renewed several times in response to the continued hostilities.
