Iran Confirms Date for next U.S. Negotiations
(MENAFN) Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the forthcoming session of discussions with the United States will occur on Saturday in Muscat.
This statement provides clarity on the location of the anticipated “indirect talks” between the two nations.
Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei dispelled rumors concerning the possible site for the next round of diplomatic discussions between Tehran and Washington.
Speaking to a state-operated news agency on late Monday, he stated that following consultations, it was confirmed that Muscat, which hosted the initial session the previous Saturday, would once again accommodate the dialogue.
There had been considerable conjecture, including reports in parts of the American press, suggesting that Rome might be considered as a potential host city for the talks.
These mediated discussions, facilitated by Oman, resume after a lengthy diplomatic deadlock and occur in the context of escalating friction between the two capitals, particularly following Donald Trump’s reelection as President of the United States.
The Iranian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the U.S. is represented by Steve Witcoff, the Special Representative for the Middle East.
Based on Iranian sources, the first session was conducted in “a constructive atmosphere based on mutual respect.”
Members of Iran’s negotiation team include Araghchi, Deputy Foreign Ministers Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, alongside Baghaei.
The principal focus of these discussions is Iran’s atomic energy program, as the Trump administration is still intensifying its efforts to hinder Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities.
