Russia, China plan on revealing joint film production plan

(MENAFN) Russia and China are set to finalize a plan for joint film production, according to Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova. The proposal was discussed during a recent meeting in Beijing between Lyubimova and Shen Haixiong, general director of the China Media Group. The meeting covered a range of potential projects, including feature films, documentaries, series, and animations. The two sides also explored the possibility of releasing the Russian film The Wizard of the Emerald City: Part 1 in Chinese cinemas.

Lyubimova emphasized that the goal is to create high-quality, artistic films that would appeal to audiences in both Russia and China. The plan aims to enhance bilateral cultural exchanges and support the development of new films. She also mentioned that the initiative would receive administrative backing from relevant authorities.

Shen, who also holds a position in China’s Publicity Department, highlighted the potential for increased film imports and exports between the two countries and expressed Beijing's commitment to maintaining open dialogue on this matter.

The Russian Ministry of Culture noted that Russia and China have previously collaborated on projects like the historical film Red Silk, which premiered successfully in Russia earlier this year, earning over 500 million rubles ($5.9 million) in its first month. The film is expected to be released in China soon. Additionally, Lyubimova invited Chinese officials to attend the Eurasian Film Academy presentation and the Open Eurasian Film Award in Moscow this April. The joint film production initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
