Russia Claims Ukraine Attacked its Energy Infrastructure

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Russia reported that Ukraine had targeted seven of its energy infrastructure and facilities in the last 24 hours.

This comes amid ongoing tensions and accusations from both sides regarding violations of recent agreements.

The previous month, the United States facilitated two important deals between Russia and Ukraine.

One aimed to "ensure safe navigation" in the Black Sea, while the other was a 30-day suspension of attacks on energy infrastructure.

These pacts came into effect after discussions held in Saudi Arabia.

However, despite the agreements, both countries have accused each other of breaching the ceasefire on strikes against energy targets.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian forces struck an energy facility and two high-voltage lines in Bryansk, a border area, on Saturday. Additionally, a high-voltage line in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, was also hit.

During the night, a Ukrainian drone attack caused the disconnection of a high-voltage line in the Rostov region.

The ministry further reported that a low-pressure gas pipeline, owned by the Russian energy titan Gazprom, was targeted twice on Sunday morning in the Voronezh region.

The statement from the Ministry of Defense also included a strong condemnation of Ukrainian actions, saying, "From the moment (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy announced that the Kyiv regime was allegedly complying with the agreement to cease attacks on Russian energy infrastructure from March 18 of this year, in fact, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not stopped attacks on Russian energy facilities even for a day."
