Earthquake death toll hits 1,000 in Myanmar

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities resulting from the powerful earthquakes that struck Myanmar has tragically increased to 1,000, with over 2,300 individuals reported injured, according to state media on Saturday.

Authorities have confirmed the latest figures, stating the toll now stands at 1,002 killed, 2,376 injured, and 30 missing persons recorded throughout the nation.

As Myanmar and neighboring Thailand grapple with the aftermath of Friday's devastating seismic events, international aid and rescue operations are being intensified.

China has dispatched a team via China Eastern Airlines, delivering vital assistance. A recent statement revealed that “at 8:35 am Saturday, China Eastern Airlines flight MU9003 arrived at Yangon International Airport, carrying 37 Chinese rescuers and 5 tons of medical supplies, tents, blankets and other relief materials.”

India has also provided significant relief, delivering 15 tons of essential items, including tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat meals, water purifiers, hygiene kits, medicines, and medical equipment.

Furthermore, Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry has sent two aircraft carrying a substantial team of 120 specialists, including anesthesiologists, psychologists, K9 search units, and emergency responders, to aid in the recovery operations, as confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
