Moscow declares Western blitzkrieg was unsuccessful

(MENAFN) Russia has successfully resisted the West’s attempts to divide its society and incite unrest, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Monday.

Speaking to students at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Zakharova accused Western nations of orchestrating an ideological offensive to isolate and destabilize Russia following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict.

According to her, the West had banked on internal divisions, particularly by applying economic pressure to create generational and societal rifts. However, she asserted, “the ideological blitzkrieg was meticulously planned, but it has failed.”

Since 2022, the US and EU have imposed extensive sanctions on Russia, including restrictions on oil exports, financial transactions, and foreign reserves, aiming to weaken its economy. Moscow, however, has dismissed these measures as ineffective, arguing that they have instead harmed Western nations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed this sentiment last week at a meeting of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. He accused the West of using the Ukraine conflict as an excuse to eliminate Russia as an economic competitor. Putin highlighted that Russia has faced over 28,500 sanctions—more than all other countries combined—but its economy remains resilient and continues to grow.

He warned that even if some restrictions are lifted, Western nations would likely find new ways to obstruct Russia’s progress. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, who recently initiated peace talks between Moscow and Kiev, has suggested that sanctions could be either eased or tightened depending on the success of negotiations.
