Doctor Responsible for Pope Francis Says Pontiff Will Leave Hospital
(MENAFN) Dr. Sergio Alfieri, the head doctor responsible for Pope Francis' medical care, said that the pontiff will be leave the hospital on Sunday after spending more than a month getting hospitalized for double pneumonia.
"The good news the world and everyone is waiting for is that tomorrow the Holy Father will be discharged. Tomorrow he will return to Santa Marta," Alfieri shared with reporters on Saturday evening.
Alfieri explained that the decision to release the pope was based on his stable and speedy recovery, along with the improvement in his prognosis, based on Vatican News.
He highlighted significant progress in Pope Francis' health over the past week. Upon admission on February 14, the pope was diagnosed with acute respiratory insufficiency due to a polymicrobial infection, which led to double pneumonia. This condition required a combination of pharmacological treatments.
Responding to questions from the press, Alfieri reassured that the double pneumonia had been effectively treated, but a complete recovery would require additional time.
He confirmed that the pope has been advised to take at least two months of convalescence, during which he will receive medical attention and ample rest.
