Russia repeats main Ukraine ceasefire request to US

(MENAFN) Moscow is urging Washington to take Russian President Vladimir Putin's conditions for a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict seriously, which include halting military aid and intelligence sharing with Kiev. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasized that these demands are vital for a political and diplomatic resolution. During a recent phone call between Putin and US President Donald Trump, both leaders discussed potential terms for a ceasefire and agreed to continue negotiations to refine the details.

Zakharova reiterated that ending military support for Ukraine is a "fundamental point" for any peace settlement and expressed hope that the US has taken Russia’s position into account. This follows a period in which Trump temporarily suspended all US military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after a contentious exchange with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. However, after talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, Washington reversed its decision, resuming military support for Kiev.

Zakharova criticized the US's move to reinstate military assistance, claiming it undermines efforts for peace. She also referred to the Ukrainian government as a "terrorist gang" and emphasized that true peace advocates would stop arming Ukraine. Despite agreeing to a temporary halt on strikes targeting energy infrastructure, Moscow accused Ukraine of violating the truce after an alleged attack on a Russian energy facility. Zakharova condemned the strike as a provocation and a sign of Zelensky’s inability to negotiate effectively.
