Satellite Images Reveal Aftermath Of Strike On Russia's Engels-2 Airbase

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Satellite imagery from the American aerospace company Maxar has captured the aftermath of an attack by Ukraine's Defense Forces on the Engels-2 airbase in Russia's Saratov region.

The images, published by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's investigative project "Schemes," show significant damage to the airbase's ammunition depots as of March 21, Ukrinform reports.

Some buildings have been completely destroyed, leaving large craters in their place.

"These depots housed missile containers for the Kh-101 and Kh-555 cruise missiles, which Russia uses to attack Ukraine from Tu-160 and Tu-95 bombers. There is also a strong likelihood that a pre-flight missile preparation center was located there, which has also been destroyed," aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi told "Schemes."

The Engels-2 airbase is known as a key launch site for Russian strategic bombers that have carried out large-scale missile strikes on Ukraine.

Ukraine's General Staff reported that in the early hours of March 20, Ukrainian forces struck the Engels-2 airbase, igniting a fire and triggering explosions of stored ammunition.
