DOHA: The Centre for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), in collaboration with Green Island a Qatar Foundation (QF) initiative, announced the launch of an educational programme on sustainability for senior citizens, starting in the second week of April.

The programme aims to enhance the skills of senior participants from Ehsan through activities at Green Island, including waste management and recycling. It also offers opportunities to explore sustainability applications in solar energy production and hydroponic farming.

Fifteen senior individuals are participating in the programme, which introduces them to innovative agricultural practices to promote sustainability and environmental preservation. The programme aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and focuses on three core themes: home gardening, wild farming, and hydroponic farming.

Executive Director of Ehsan Manal Ahmed Al Mannaii noted that this collaboration reflects the centre's efforts to provide innovative educational programmes that develop seniors' skills and increase their environmental and agricultural awareness.

She emphasised the importance of creating an educational environment that allows participants to experience modern agricultural practices and practically engage with sustainability concepts.

QF Sustainability Manager Dr. Nawal Al Sulaiti added that Green Island seeks to raise environmental awareness across all segments of society.

She highlighted that integrating seniors into such programmes contributes to achieving sustainability goals and enhancing individuals' participation in national initiatives.

Green Island, a project under Qatar Foundation, is a comprehensive educational initiative that promotes sustainability concepts through advanced educational programmes in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and recycling. It focuses on hands-on learning and interaction with best environmental practices.
