U.S. Urges Iraq to Complete Oil Export Deal

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the United States government urged the Iraqi administration to complete a deal with international oil corporations to restart crude oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline (ITP), which have been suspended for almost a year.

“We are urging the Iraqi government to reach an agreement...with the international oil companies to resume oil exports through the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline as soon as possible, and to honor the existing contracts with US companies,” stated Tammy Bruce, a representative for the State Department, during a daily press meeting with journalists.

Bruce further emphasized, “Reopening the ITP ensures Iraqi oil can reach global, especially European, markets. Iraq benefits from the stability of resilient supply chains as we all do.”

The oil shipments from Iraq to the Ceyhan Port were halted on March 25, 2023, following an arbitration decision made by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris regarding oil exports between Turkey and Iraq.
