Ukraine receives fresh batch of F-16 aircrafts

(MENAFN) President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Wednesday that Ukraine’s Air Force has received a fresh batch of F-16 combat aircrafts. The announcement came in the course of a Zoom meeting with reporters, where the president addressed the latest developments in Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Zelenskyy emphasized: “Additional F-16s have arrived in Ukraine. The Russians are lying that they shot something down—they didn’t shoot down anything. And the good news is that several F-16 jets have arrived in Ukraine,” as reported by a Ukrainian news agency.

This comes in response to reports from Russian media, which had earlier stated that Russian air defenses successfully downed a Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet in the Sumy area.

For some time, Zelenskyy has voiced concerns over the difficulty of securing a sufficient number of F-16 aircrafts for Ukraine’s defense. He pointed out the critical importance of both the quantity and timing of these deliveries.

He explained: “The problem with F-16s is the quantity and the dates. But let’s be honest. Russia uses 300 aircraft against Ukraine every day. We had a decision for 10-20. Even if we get 50, it is nothing. We are defending ourselves, and we need 128. That is a fleet.”

The recent shipment of F-16s marks a significant step in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its air defense as the conflict with Russia intensifies. The arrival of these fighter jets is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to protect its airspace and combat Russian airstrikes more effectively.
