Zelenskyy Says Putin's Ceasefire Comments Are ‘at odds with reality’
(MENAFN) Ukrainian Leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed on Wednesday that Russian Leader Vladimir Putin’s statements regarding a ceasefire were "at odds with reality," as both Russia and Ukraine exchanged accusations over attacks on each other's infrastructure.
The conflict escalated after reports from both Russian and Ukrainian officials of attacks on local infrastructure overnight.
These came shortly after a Tuesday phone conversation between Putin and United States Leader Donald Trump, where the Russian president agreed to a short-term ceasefire, which would pause attacks "on all energy and infrastructure" temporarily.
Later that evening, Zelenskyy expressed his support for the ceasefire initiative. However, on Wednesday, during a joint press conference in Helsinki with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Zelenskyy contradicted Putin’s claims, stating that "there were 150 drones overnight, including on energy facilities." He also mentioned strikes on transportation, two hospitals, and regular urban infrastructure. "So Putin's words are very different from reality," he remarked.
Zelenskyy further emphasized that the issue of territorial control would be one of the most "sensitive and difficult" topics in any potential future negotiations. He reiterated that Ukraine would never acknowledge Russia's occupation of Ukrainian land, calling this a "red line" they will not cross.
