Climate change experts meet in Nairobi, addressing Africa’s finance gap
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, a meeting held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, brought together climate change experts, aiming at exploring solutions for addressing the climate finance gap in Africa.
The second Climate Change Global Business Summit on Africa, held over Wednesday and Thursday, saw participation from representatives of African governments, the United Nations, multilateral financial institutions, and the private sector.
Aden Duale, the Cabinet Secretary for Kenya’s Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, outlined that Kenya is looking to secure approximately 4 billion U.S. dollars yearly for adaptation to climate change and an additional 1.4 billion dollars each year for mitigation efforts up until 2030.
"This funding is essential to address the impacts of climate change and build a resilient, sustainable future for all Kenyans," Duale stated.
He underscored the need for Africa to receive financial support from international organizations, development allies, as well as private enterprises to fast-track climate action throughout the continent.
