France Desires to Increase Rafale Fighter Jet Orders

(MENAFN) France’s leader announced on Tuesday that the country will upsurge its orders for Rafale fighter jets as part of broader efforts across Europe to enhance military capabilities in response to potential reductions in US military presence on the continent.

Emmanuel Macron emphasized the urgency of these measures, stating, “I want to tell you that the Air and Space Force will receive additional Rafale orders. This is imperative in the current context – an absolute necessity.” He further highlighted the intention to “increase” and “accelerate” Rafale orders to strengthen France’s defense infrastructure.

During his visit to Luxeuil-les-Bains Airbase in eastern France, Macron confirmed that the Rafale project would be expanded to ensure it plays a key role in “French nuclear deterrence.”

He added that the airbase would receive significant upgrades to support the next two Rafale squadrons, with its capacity expected to double by 2035, reaching nearly 2,000 military and civilian personnel.

Macron also noted that the airbase would undergo a “profound transformation,” with the government committing nearly EURO1.5 billion (USD1.6 billion) for modernization efforts.

“By 2035, Luxeuil will become the first base to host the next version of the Rafale and its hypersonic nuclear missile – an essential part of the ongoing modernization of our nuclear deterrent. Luxeuil will thus continue its long history in service of the mission that is at the heart of our national defense,” he concluded.
