GCC Reaffirms Support For Syriaآ's Unity And Stability

GENEVA, March 18 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reaffirmed Tuesday unwavering support for Syriaآ's sovereignty independence and territorial integrity while rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs and any actions that fuel divisions among the Syrian people.
This came in a statement delivered by Kuwaitآ's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen as Chairman of the GCC Ambassadorsآ' Council during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria during the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Ambassador Al-Hayen emphasized that Syriaآ's security and stability are fundamental pillars of regional stability and that combating extremism, radicalization and incitement, stressing the need to respect diversity and religious beliefs as a priority for the GCC.
He reiterated the GCCآ's support for all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political transition that ensures security stability and prosperity under the rule of law and justice.
Ambassador Al-Hayen also welcomed the convening of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, expressing hope that it would contribute to fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people across all factions while preserving Syriaآ's unity and sovereignty.
He called on all parties in Syria to prioritize national interests, achieve reconciliation, safeguard civilians and protect state institutions.
He further stressed the GCCآ's position on integrating armed factions under the Ministry of Defense to ensure that weapons remain under state control thereby restoring Syriaآ's regional and international role, welcoming the agreement on merging all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria into national institutions.
The GCC also called for lifting sanctions on Syria and providing all necessary support to the Syrian people, reaffirming the blocآ's commitment to delivering humanitarian assistance. (end)
