Egyptian FM Stresses Boosting Trading Ties With UK


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 18 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty stressed strengthening trade and investment relations between Egypt and the UK, estimating trade exchange at about five billion sterling pounds (USD 6.4 billion) during the past year.
This came during the Foreign Minister's reception, on Tuesday, of Yasmin Qureshi, Member of the British House of Commons and the UK's Special Trade Envoy to Egypt.
The ministry's spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf said in a statement that Abdelatty expressed his aspiration for further joint work to maximize the potential available in economic relations between the two countries, as well as to attract more British investments to Egypt.
Abdelatty reviewed the steps taken by the Egyptian government to create a business environment, improve the investment climate, and overcome obstacles facing foreign investors, emphasizing the importance Egypt places on the role of the private sector in economic activity.
He also stressed the importance of building on the Egyptian-British Partnership Agreement signed in December 2020, as well as the outcomes of the Egyptian-British Partnership Council held in January, during which it was agreed to resolve any outstanding issues, thus contributing to the access of exports to the Egyptian and British markets.
Minister Abdelatty noted the importance Egypt places on strengthening cooperation with the British side in other fields, most notably university education.
He addressed the field of tourism, noting that Egypt is one of the most prominent tourist destinations for the British, emphasizing the desire to work on increasing the volume of tourism to even greater levels. (end)
