Israel conferred with US ahead of launching Gaza airstrikes
(MENAFN) The White House confirmed on Monday that Israel conferred with the United States before carrying out its recent air attacks in the Gaza Strip.
"The trump administration and the White House were consulted by the Israelis on their attacks in Gaza tonight," representative Karoline Leavitt stated in an interview with a news agency.
Her comments followed an announcement by the Israeli military that it had launched its most significant airstrikes on Gaza since the ceasefire with Hamas began on January 19.
Leavitt reiterated: "As President (Donald) Trump has made it clear: Hamas, the Houthis, Iran, all those who seek to terrorize not just Israel, but also the United States of America, will see a price to pay."
According to local media reports, more than 80 Palestinians lost their lives, quoting Palestinian civil emergency services.
In a statement, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz had directed the military to perform a "strong action" against Hamas in Gaza.
The statement explained: "This follows Hamas's repeated refusal to release our hostages, as well as its rejection of all of the proposals it has received from US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and from the mediators."
