Dubai Police Web Site For Lodging Complaints

"Our doors are wide open, nobody needs a prior approval from any authority to approach us. They don't have to leave their residence or workplace to reach us. And our web site address can be found on almost all Police patrol vehicles," the official said.

This is another first scored by Dubai Police after its 'strategic decision' to set up a human rights protection arm.

He said that rights and freedoms were protected by the UAE constitution for all residents, and all agencies and individuals should work to ensure a decent life for everyone.

Captain Ahmed Al Saadi, head of the Research and Development Section which is in charge of the web site, said that efforts had been to make an attractive and pleasing site.

"The site," he said, "has information about Dubai Police and details of its activities relating to human rights issues. It has sections that deal with various categories of complaints."

He added: "There is also an online library of human rights publications, as well as information on international declarations and agreements."

Capt. Al Saadi said that the site had a special format enabling visitors to lodge complaints and it also provided help if someone wanted to send documents supporting his claims.

"People can send their cases without having to come physically to the department at the Dubai Police headquarters.

"They would receive replies online through electronic mail. Cases would then be investigated and decided," he said.
