UN Chief Holds Informal Meeting On Cyprus

GENEVA, March 14 (Kuna) -- The United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG) announced on Friday that the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will convene the two Cypriot leaders and the Guarantor Powers of Greece Turkiye and the United Kingdom for an informal in-person meeting on Cyprus next week in Geneva.
UNOG stated in a press briefing in Geneva that the meeting is part of the Secretary-General's ongoing efforts to address the Cyprus problem in line with his commitment since 15 October aiming to provide a platform for constructive discussions in resolving the long-standing dispute.
The Cyprus conflict has remained unresolved for more than five decades dividing the island between the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus a member of both the United Nations and the European Union and the self-proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which declared independence in 1983 but is recognized only by Turkey.
