Japan Closely Monitoring Developments In Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, March 14 (KUNA) -- The Japanese government said, Friday, that it has been closely monitoring the developments in Syria with grave interest, while admitting recent positive steps toward reconciliation.
"Japan is concerned about the deterioration of the humanitarian situation with many casualties including civilians, and strongly urges all parties concerned to immediately cease violence and comply with international law including international humanitarian law," Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Toshihiro Kitamura said in a statement.
"Japan has been closely monitoring the series of developments in Syria with grave interest, including positive steps toward reconciliation among various factions as well as the violence in the coastal area," he added.
His remarks came as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian transitional president Ahmad al-Sharaa reached an agreement stipulating the integration of the SDF into Syrian state institutions on Monday.
Kitamura also said that Tokyo calls for all parties to play a constructive role in promoting comprehensive political settlement and national reconciliation through dialogue in order to achieve a peaceful and stable transition. (end)
