Civilian deaths from Ukrainian mass-drone assault increases
(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from Ukraine’s large-scale drone assault on civilian areas near Moscow has climbed to three, Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported on Tuesday. A 43-year-old man, who suffered severe injuries, including a stomach wound, broken shoulder, and leg fractures from shrapnel, died in the hospital despite doctors’ efforts to save him.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defenses intercepted 337 Ukrainian drones during the overnight attack, including 91 over Moscow Region. Governor Vorobyov stated that the deceased man, an employee of the Russian agricultural company Miratorg, left behind a wife and a five-year-old son. Two other Miratorg workers also lost their lives, including a security guard who died instantly.
The unprecedented wave of kamikaze drones caused damage to residential buildings in Moscow and surrounding areas. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed structural damage to at least one high-rise in the capital, while additional buildings were affected outside the city.
The Russian Investigative Committee has labeled the attack as an act of terrorism, with officials suggesting that Ukraine is resorting to such tactics due to setbacks on the battlefield. State Duma Defense Committee Deputy Chairman Aleksey Zhuravlev claimed that the “Kiev regime is in its final throes” and attempting to escalate the conflict.
The assault occurred just hours before high-level talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia. The Trump administration has accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of obstructing Washington’s efforts to negotiate a ceasefire by refusing to compromise.
