
Qatar Ready To Mark Garangao With Festive Fervour Tomorrow
Doha, Qatar: Qatar is ready to celebrate Garangao, one of Ramadan's most beloved traditions for young children tomorrow.
Malls and shopping centres with dedicated corners offer Garangao products including traditional goodie bags filled with sweet treats, special dresses and decorations in large quantity.
Major venues of Garangao celebrations, such as Soque Waqif, Katara, Old Doha Port, and Msheireb Downtown Doha, have announced special activities to mark the festival.
The festival falls on the 14th evening of the holy month of Ramadan. Beginning after the sunset (maghrib) prayer, children knock on doors throughout their neighborhood, collecting sweets and nuts and singing the traditional Garangao song.

Sweet and nut shops have witnessed a heavy turnout and crowding by families buying all the supplies in preparation for the celebration. Shops are also competing with each other these days to attract customers by displaying new and varied forms of Garangao sweets, specifically different bags with attractive traditional colours.
Speaking to The Peninsula, Mohamad Husain, a shop owner, said that Garangao is an important season, for which shops prepare early, by providing large quantities of nuts and various sweets.“We offer nuts, candies, sweets in loose form and in small packets which are prepared especially for distribution as Garangao treats,” said Husain.
Cultural Village Foundation – Katara has invited people to enjoy a fun-filled Garangao Night on March 14, 2025 at 8:30 pm at Katara Corniche and Amphitheater. Souq Waqif will organise events at Eastern Square from 8pm.
Garangao Night at Old Doha Port will be family-friendly and filled with celebrations and cultural activities. Children will take part in the beloved tradition of collecting sweets while visitors enjoy live performances and an evening of festivities that honour Qatari heritage between 6pm and 11pm on the 14th day of Ramadan.
Msheireb Properties has revealed plans for its Garangao 2025 celebrations on March 14-15 at Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The event will showcase traditional activities celebrating the mid-Ramadan children's festival.
To celebrate the festival, boys and girls wear traditional Garangao clothes, consisting of a turban, a dishdasha, and a head covering, and carry small bags or sacks in which they collect Garangao treats.
The sweets are decorated and wrapped in gift bags, with pictures of children wearing Garangao clothes on them.
The jubilant festival embodies a moment of delight, strengthening cultural ties and preserving the innocence of childhood.
Several events are organised across the country to celebrate Garangao reviving the popular heritage and introducing authentic Ramadan customs and traditions, so that children and their families can experience a festive atmosphere of great joy and happiness.
