Pro-Palestine advocates demonstrate over Trump’s policy in NYC
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, hundreds of pro-Palestine advocates gathered in New York City to rally against the policies of the Donald trump administration regarding the Middle East, campus activism, as well as immigration.
The demonstrators marched from Washington Park to City Hall in Lower Manhattan in the period of afternoon. The Police officers have taken a total of 12 protesters into custody.
This protest followed the Trump administration's recent decision to cancel 400 million U.S. dollars in federal funding for Columbia University due to allegations of anti-Semitism and a subsequent review of other universities.
Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate student and an active participant in the pro-Palestinian protests at the university since April 2024, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in his dormitory on Saturday.
According to Khalil’s lawyer, Khalil who is a long-lasting U.S. inhabitant, faced additional threats, with his wife, who is eight months pregnant, also being targeted by ICE.
