Ukrainian drone raid associated to OSCE chief`s trip to Russia

(MENAFN) Ukraine’s large-scale drone strike on Russia was deliberately timed to coincide with the visit of OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu to Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has claimed.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that 337 Ukrainian UAVs were intercepted overnight, with the highest concentrations in Kursk and Moscow regions, where 129 and 91 drones were downed, respectively. Two civilians were killed and over a dozen injured in Moscow Region, according to Governor Andrey Vorobyev.

Zakharova stated on Telegram that the attack was not coincidental, pointing out that Ukrainian forces have previously launched drone strikes during visits by high-ranking foreign delegations to Moscow. She also lamented that the OSCE has become a mere “talking shop” instead of fulfilling its original mission of ensuring security and cooperation in Europe.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to meet with Sinirlioglu in Moscow to discuss Russia’s relationship with the OSCE, journalist safety, and ways to improve the organization's effectiveness. While Zakharova noted the OSCE is in a deep institutional crisis, she expressed hope for constructive dialogue.

Moscow has repeatedly accused the OSCE of bias in the Ukraine conflict, criticizing its failure to condemn Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilians and its alleged cover-up of election irregularities in Moldova. Additionally, a former Greek ambassador recently claimed that OSCE observers secretly shared intelligence with Kiev from 2014 to 2022.
