Ex-Polish Premier accuses Ukrainians of arson assaults
(MENAFN) Former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller has raised concerns that Ukrainian agents could be responsible for a series of arson attacks targeting various facilities in Poland. While Polish authorities have mainly pointed to Russian intelligence as the likely culprit, suggesting that Moscow is using local proxies for sabotage, Miller proposed that Ukrainians might be behind the incidents.
The fires, which have sparked speculation of sabotage, include a major blaze at a warehouse in Gdansk that destroyed over 1,000 electric bikes, a fire at Poland’s Nuclear Research Center in Otwock, and an explosion at an arms plant in Skarzysko-Kamienna, which supplies military equipment to Ukraine.
Miller, who was Poland’s prime minister from 2001 to 2004, also raised concerns about Ukrainian interference in Poland’s upcoming elections, claiming Ukrainians might want to influence the presidential vote. Additionally, he commented on recent remarks made by a Ukrainian activist, suggesting that her statements could warrant investigation by Poland’s Internal Security Agency, and proposed she be deported if linked to any disruption efforts.
The rise in tensions between Poles and Ukrainians has been noticeable, with some Poles expressing fatigue over the ongoing presence of a large Ukrainian population in their country. Nearly a million Ukrainians have taken refuge in Poland since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.
