Medevac aircraft collides into inhabitant region in US
(MENAFN) A Learjet 55 medical transport plane, carrying six people, crashed in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening. Witnesses and security cameras captured a bright flash in the sky followed by explosions and heavy smoke. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the jet went down at around 6:30 PM local time, shortly after taking off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The plane was heading to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.
The Mexico-registered jet, owned by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, was carrying two doctors, two pilots, a patient, and a family member, according to newly appointed US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. Emergency personnel at the scene reported that multiple residents were injured, though details on the number and severity of injuries have not been provided. Several nearby homes caught fire upon impact, and social media footage showed debris scattered across the area.
The crash occurred near Cottman and Bustleton Avenues, close to the Roosevelt Mall, prompting road closures in the area. Emergency responders quickly arrived to combat the fires and assist those affected. The crash site is about three miles from the airport, which handles various types of aircraft. The cause of the crash is under investigation. This incident follows closely on the heels of a deadly helicopter-passenger jet collision over Washington, DC, that killed 67 people.
