Health experts condemn collapse of Gaza’s health system
(MENAFN) At a solidarity event in Geneva, health experts condemned the collapse of Gaza’s health system, attributing it to the Zionist forces' actions, which they referred to as genocide. They warned that rebuilding Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure could take up to 12 years. The protest, titled "The Great Protest in the White Tent," was organized in front of the United Nations office in Geneva by health workers seeking to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza. Participants described the ongoing violence as "genocide" and stressed the importance of taking action rather than remaining silent.
Health professionals shared their accounts of massacres committed by Zionist forces against Palestinians and healthcare workers in Gaza. Huseyin Durmaz, a member of the Turkish International Health Coalition, highlighted their efforts to organize protests and call for concrete actions from the international community. He explained that over 100 health organizations from 12 countries had joined the cause, with more than 50 countries showing solidarity by signing petitions or holding simultaneous protests. Durmaz called for the permanent implementation of a ceasefire, stating that Gaza’s health system had collapsed entirely, and it would take 12 years to rebuild it. He urged that medical aid be allowed into Gaza without restrictions, in terms of personnel or equipment.
French-Algerian health worker Nouria Belhaj added that despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel has not honored it, and Gaza has been subjected to massacres for over a year. She emphasized the solidarity of health workers with their colleagues in Palestine, asserting their commitment to supporting those in need. The protest, which included meetings with UN officials, aimed to amplify the call for urgent action and to hold international bodies accountable for addressing the dire situation in Gaza.
