AMMAN - Interior Minister Mazen Faraya on Saturday met International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope at the Jaber Border Crossing with Syria to discuss the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees.
Faraya reviewed the facilities Jordan provided for the return of displaced Syrians to their country and the smooth entry of goods and reconstruction materials to the country, the Jordan News agency, Petra, reported.
The minister also pledged all forms of assistance to Syrian "brothers" in the next stage, and ease procedures for the voluntary return of refugees.
"Jordan will continue to carry out its humanitarian role towards refugees, and is ready to provide all that is needed, as it has been a meeting place for Syrians from across the world with their families during the past years, providing them with all facilities, and will continue to stand with the brotherly Syrian people and support their choices and efforts to rebuild their country and institutions," he said.
Faraya and Pope toured facilities at the border post and were briefed on the flow of work and the need to develop the centre's infrastructure and raise the level and volume of services to accommodate a growing number of Syrians returning to their country and ensure the smooth flow of basic commodities to Syria through the crossing.
Pope thanked Jordan for the services offered to Syrians, commending measures at the Jaber crossing and pledging support for development and modernisation operations within her organisation's programmes.
