National Day Celebration: Qatar-Brazil Ties Grow
He said the history of the relationship between the two countries is marked by significant events and mentioned recent milestones, such as the visit of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Doha, the capital of Qatar, at the end of last year, and the participation of the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro at the invitation of President Lula. Brazil held the temporary presidency of the group at that time.
Alshebani also mentioned the fifth round of political consultations between Brazil and Qatar, held in Brasília in October 2023, and said the trade exchange between the two countries has surpassed USD 1 billion in 2024. Brazil primarily exports food to Qatar, while the Arab country exports mainly gas, oil, and fertilizers.“Together, we've achieved remarkable results in politics, economy, culture, and other areas, reflecting the depth of the ties that bind our two friendly countries,” he said.
The diplomat also provided the guests with an overview of his country and said the founder of Qatar, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, laid the solid foundations for the construction of a strong and independent state, which now continues to progress, develop, and contribute to building a more peaceful and prosperous world under the wise leadership of its Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The diplomat also reported that Qatar has established a comprehensive national strategy, with a plan endowed with the necessary resources for the coming years.“The foreign policy of the state of Qatar is based on solid principles and firm foundations aimed at realizing its national interests and promoting the values of belonging, with a total commitment to international conventions and effective cooperation in addressing global challenges,” he also said.
Qatar's c elebration in BrazilThe event brought together guests, including officials and diplomats, who were welcomed by the ambassador and other members of the Embassy of Qatar in Brazil, at the Dúnia City Hall event venue in Brazil's capital. The Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC ) was represented by Secretary-General & International Relations Vice President Mohamad Orra Mourad.
