Türkiye’s trade sales volume grows by 7.2 percent annually in October

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s trade sales volume grew by 7.2 percent year-on-year in October, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Wednesday. This indicates a continued positive trend in trade activity, despite broader economic challenges. A standout performer within this growth was the retail sector, which saw a notable 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

In the retail trade sector, food, drinks, and tobacco sales rose by 10.6 percent, reflecting consistent consumer demand for essential items. Non-food retail sales saw a more significant surge, increasing by 20.1 percent, indicating strong growth in sectors beyond everyday necessities. Automotive fuel sales experienced a modest uptick of 1 percent, which points to steady demand despite rising fuel costs in some regions.

In the wholesale sector, the wholesale and retail trade, as well as the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, posted an increase of 9.2 percent. Wholesale trade sales volume, however, saw a smaller rise of 3.8 percent, signaling some slower growth within this segment.

On a monthly basis, Türkiye’s overall trade sales volume declined by 1.9 percent. However, the retail sales volume index showed some resilience, with a slight 0.2 percent increase. This suggests that while overall trade faced some challenges, the retail sector remained relatively stable, buoyed by strong consumer demand across various categories.
