Telecommunications regulator confirms Starlink will begin providing its satellite internet services in Jordan
(MENAFN) The telecommunications regulator has confirmed that Starlink will begin providing its satellite internet services in Jordan in early 2024, following necessary technical and logistical preparations. This announcement follows earlier expectations that the company would activate its satellites for commercial service in the country by next year.
In response to inquiries from the "Kingdom," the regulator stated that Starlink, in collaboration with the Telecommunications Authority, is working to implement the terms outlined in its license. Recently, Starlink has expressed its intention to begin regulatory and procedural arrangements. In 2023, Jordan granted Starlink a general communications license, allowing the company to activate its satellite services under the country's Telecommunications Law. This agreement enables Starlink to operate within Jordan's local telecommunications market after completing the required paperwork.
Starlink, owned by SpaceX, will offer satellite internet via low-orbit satellites as part of its global initiative, Starlink Communications. The company is a leader in satellite internet services, using a network of satellites in low orbit to complement terrestrial infrastructure. In October 2022, the regulator confirmed the success of SpaceX's experiment, which demonstrated the capabilities of low-orbit satellite internet services, achieving average download speeds between 100MB and 200MB. SpaceX's Starlink network currently consists of over 3,000 satellites, with plans to expand to tens of thousands, aiming to provide global internet coverage.
