Civil engineering is essential to building the infrastructure that supports modern life. At the core of every resilient structure is a critical process that ensures its strength and longevity: material testing.

Material testing serves as the foundation of civil engineering, guaranteeing the integrity, safety, and durability of the structures that define our urban landscapes. From analyzing concrete to assessing soil properties, every stage of construction involves precise testing. Civil engineers and construction experts utilize diverse methods to evaluate the characteristics of materials, ensuring they meet the required standards.

Commenting on this accomplishment, Mr. Freddy Soman, General Manager, Matter Lab, ULCCS said, “We are extremely honoured and humbled at the expansion of our accreditation scope from about 100 tests to now nearly 1,000 accredited tests. It is a demonstration of our expertise and proven track record and we are thankful to NABL for this recognition of our capabilities. We look forward to supporting our client’s projects and helping them meet their technical requirements.”

The Lab can test materials like soil, rocks, cement, fly ash, steel, water, concrete, masonry blocks, clay roof tiles, timber, plywood, ceramic tiles, tile adhesives, natural stones such as granite and marble, geotextiles, thermoplastic pipes and fittings, high-density polyethylene pipes for water supply, bitumen, among others. It can conduct specialised field tests along with performing concrete and asphalt mix designs as well as concrete durability tests, examination of stabilised soil materials, and those to monitor the health of concrete structures.
