Adaptation Plans To Assist Central Asian Countries To Develop Joint Position At COP29 - UN
According to her, the national adaptation plans that already exist or are ready for approval, as well as the envisioned regional adaptation plan, will help Central Asian countries develop a common position at COP29.
“The upcoming COP29 provides a unique opportunity to reach an agreement on adaptation financing needs, practices, and instruments, thereby breathing life into the provisions of the Pact for the Future adopted at this week's Future Summit,” she said.
Grawe noted that in this pact, UN member states recognize that “adaptation finance will need to be significantly increased to (...) support the urgent and evolving needs to accelerate adaptation and build resilience in developing countries while emphasizing that finance, capacity building, and technology transfer are critical factors in combating climate change”.
“I strongly hope countries participating in COP29 will agree to strengthen support for implementing national and regional adaptation plans, including through financial commitments and technical assistance. This will also pave the way for the development of the third generation of nationally determined contributions to be submitted by Member States before COP30 in Brazil,” she added.
