Bureau Of Indian Standards Launches R&D Initiative To Bolster Standardisation Process


(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Jul 24 (KNN) In a significant move to enhance India's standardisation landscape, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has greenlit 82 Research & Development (R&D) projects, collaborating with leading technical institutes across the country.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in BIS's efforts to align national standards with cutting-edge technological advancements and evolving industry needs.

The sanctioned projects, each allocated up to ten lakh rupees and a six-month timeline, involve faculty members from prestigious institutions such as IITs and NITs.

These projects are not limited to theoretical studies but encompass extensive field-level research in emerging domains including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology, Medical Devices, Renewable Energy, Sustainability, Smart Cities, and Digital Transformation.

Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, "Our collaboration with premier educational institutions and the sanctioning of numerous R&D projects signify our commitment to advancing the standardisation process in line with technological advancements and evolving industry needs."

The scope of this R&D drive extends beyond the initial 82 projects, with 99 more in the allotment process and an additional 66 projects open for application. Interested researchers can access these opportunities through the BIS website.

This ambitious undertaking by BIS, which has already formulated over 22,000 Indian Standards, aims to fortify the research ecosystem within academic institutions while ensuring that national standards remain robust, relevant, and capable of addressing modern technological challenges.

By integrating R&D projects into the standardisation process, BIS seeks to safeguard consumer interests and contribute to a safer, more reliable marketplace in India.

The initiative reflects BIS's proactive approach to tackling the challenges posed by rapid technological advancements and transformative changes in business and social spheres.

Through strategic partnerships with educational institutions, BIS is leveraging a vast network of domain experts to conduct comprehensive research, including focus group discussions and detailed field-level studies of current practices in product manufacturing and service delivery.
