Russia-Ukraine conflict intensifies hostilities across several key locations

(MENAFN) Over the past week, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has seen intensified hostilities across several key locations along the front line, with significant developments reported in Donbass. Russian military forces have achieved notable advances, including the recapture of Urozhaynoye, a large village in the southwest of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The village, which had been a focal point of recent fighting, was one of the few settlements captured by Ukrainian forces during their counteroffensive last summer. However, it has since endured extensive damage from ongoing battles, as evidenced by drone footage showing Russian troops raising their flag over local administrative buildings.

In addition to Urozhaynoye, Russian forces have made further progress in the region. On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the capture of Yuryevka, a small village west of Gorlovka, DPR. This move suggests an expansion of Russian control following a recent breakthrough through Ukrainian defenses. The troops had previously entered the village of New York (also known as Novgorodskoye) to the northeast of Yuryevka, marking another strategic gain.

Russian military operations also continue to push westward near Ovheretino, a crucial logistics and railway hub that was liberated by Russian forces in April. On Friday, military journalist Marat Khairullin reported that Russian troops had swiftly advanced towards the village of Progress, located 7 kilometers further west along the railway line, and had gained control of part of the village. This development underscores Russia's ongoing efforts to consolidate its gains and extend its control in the region.
