Beijing's foreign trade hit record high amid growing contribution of exports from emerging industries

(MENAFN) According to data released by the Beijing Municipal Customs Administration, Beijing achieved a historic peak in foreign trade during the first half of 2024, with a total of 1.83 trillion yuan (approximately USD256.61 billion). This marks a significant milestone for the city, reflecting a 3.6 percent increase in import and export volume compared to the same period last year. This growth represents 8.7 percent of China's total foreign trade, highlighting Beijing's substantial role in the country's international economic activities.

Emerging industries have played a crucial role in this impressive performance, contributing significantly to Beijing's export growth. These industries accounted for 27.8 percent of the city's total export volume during the first six months of the year. This surge underscores the shifting dynamics in Beijing's trade landscape, driven by the expansion of new and innovative sectors that are increasingly vital to the city's economic growth and its position in global trade.
