Egyptian PM Attends African Union Mid-Year Meeting In Ghana

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has travelled from Cairo to Accra, Ghana, to participate in the Sixth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the Regional Mechanisms (RMs), and the African Union Member States. Madbouly represents Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, given Egypt's current presidency of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) agency.

During the meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister will deliver a speech emphasizing NEPAD's role in promoting regional and continental integration within the framework of Agenda 2063. This session will be attended by various heads of state, government officials, and representatives from African organizations.

In addition to the formal sessions, Madbouly will hold bilateral meetings with several officials during his visit to Ghana, focusing on efforts to enhance economic integration among African countries.

The Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, established in 2017, serves as the primary forum for aligning the AU's and RECs' work and coordinating the implementation of the continental integration agenda. This meeting replaces the traditional June/July summits.

In Accra, the agenda includes evaluating the AU's early warning and conflict prevention mechanisms, as well as promoting cooperation among regional economic communities to accelerate integration. A declaration is expected to be adopted after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the 45th Ordinary Session of the African Union's Executive Council opened in Accra on Thursday, with a focus on education as a key driver of growth, inclusion, and improved quality of life.
